Many critically ill patients have complex wounds that are challenging to manage and consume extensive resources in supplies, personnel time, prolonged lengths of stay, and monetary costs. A majority of wounds arise from clean case surgeries, with an estimated 30 million procedures annually in the United States, with 3% to 4% complicated by infection.
