Underserved populations experience kidney disease at higher rates than other population groups as witnessed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many individuals who were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus developed acute kidney injury requiring dialysis. The long-term effects of kidney disease related to COVID-19 infection remain to be seen. Early recognition of risk and disease can improve health outcomes and delay progression of disease.
